With Summer finally upon us in the Fraser Valley I often find myself aching to spend the afternoon on a sunny patio and with a cold drink in hand. But let’s face it, life often gets in the way and we don’t necessarily have the time or the funds to do this as much as we might like.
Recently I uncovered a gem of a beer, so delicious that it makes my shaded balcony just a little bit sunnier! The Whistler Brewing Company Paradise Valley Grapefruit Ale is divine. The infusion of dried grapefruit makes this blonde ale even more refreshing. With Sterling and Willamette hops it is a maltier brew that pairs well with curries and Asian dishes. You can find it from May to September in BC Liquor Stores across the Fraser Valley.
The Grapefruit Ale started a citrus kick for me and I decided that I needed to do a little bit of research on a few other products. And by research I definitely mean product sampling! This product sampling led me to uncover another hidden treasure, Russell Brewing Company’s Lemon Ale. This summer sipper is delicate wheat malt that features hints of lemon. It is the perfect companion to sushi, Indian food or chicken and fish hot off the grill. Russell Brewing Company has been making this delicious brew right in your backyard for over 13 years. With their brewery located on 80th Avenue in Surrey I am ashamed I didn’t sample it sooner. It is also on tap in several Fraser Valley Watering holes including; rider’s Pub, Cheam Golf Course, Sabatino’s Restaurant, Sawbucks Pub and more. You can enjoy it at home by purchasing it in cans or bottles in private liquor stores across the Fraser Valley.
The citrus trifecta would not be complete without a little bit orange! Dead Frog Brewery in Aldergrove does a fantastic job with their Mandarin Orange Amber Ale. It was originally crafted to be a winter only release, however, it was so well received that Dead Frog has continued to brew it for the summer too! It has just the right combination of hops and mandarin orange essence to create the perfect summer beverage. You can find this Amber Ale at a multitude of Pubs and Restaurants from Surrey to Chilliwack including; Fort Pub, Fraserglen Golf Course, Bob’s Bar and Grill and many more! It is also available for purchase at BC Liquor Stores as well as privately owned liquor stores. Even better, head to the Dead Frog brewery located on Gloucester Way and for $10 you can take a tour including tastings!
This unbeatable citrus trio is best paired with a hot summer afternoon!
