By now most of us have heard of, or very likely used, the new craze online – group buying sites. Groupon, Living Social… there are many different ones popping up each week, or so it seems.
One new Fraser Valley-based group buying site has launched this week, with another ready to launch on Monday. Surrey.com introduced itself this week with deals such as 50% off Walmart or Starbucks gift cards. Groupon Abbotsford is getting ready to launch on December 13th, and will include savings from businesses throughout the Fraser Valley, not just Abbotsford.
How do group buying sites work? Basically, a business signs up and offers a screaming deal for the one day. The sites advertise this deal to their subscribers, who pop online that day and scoop up the savings. Tons of new customers for the business, fabulous savings for the customers! Win/win!
To sign up to Groupon Abbotsford, click here. At the very top of the page, choose Abbotsford in the drop down menu and enter your email address. They will begin sending you deals as soon as they are up and running. You can also sign up for the Vancouver one, as there are several Fraser Valley businesses that have been signing up for that one.
To sign up for Surrey.com, click here and literally just type in your email address. You will begin receiving daily deals from businesses in Surrey and surrounding areas (Langley, Delta, White Rock).
As a professional personal shopper and someone who just loves a good deal, I’ve subscribed to a number of sites in Vancouver and beyond. Some of the savings are pretty fantastic and it has introduced me to many businesses. I’m super excited to see some hyper-local ones popping up and really hope to see some more local businesses taking part, instead of all the ‘big guys’.
