It really is amazing when one day you talk about your dreams and the next day you realize them. For some people, this dream can take months, and for others, it can take years. For Steven and Lynn, the Owners of Chopsticks on Pho in Surrey, their dream was 18 years in the making.
Imagine going on a first date and talking about your dreams for the future. Not only is it exciting (and scary) to share them with someone else, but it’s even more exciting when the person you are sharing those dreams with has the same dream as you! This was the case for Steven and Lynn, who talked about owning their own restaurant one day. For both, it was a dream to prepare home-cooked Vietnamese food and enjoy a relaxed, family atmosphere and for Lynn specifically, it was about memories of food prepared lovingly by her Mother.
Not only do these owners share a passion for food that is healthy, nourishing and delicious, but they share a similar background in their journey to Canada. Both escaped from Vietnam with their families and became refugees before being given the opportunity to start a new life in Canada. They grew up in Edmonton and met while she was in high school and he was in college. Steven’s background is in electronics and computers and Lynn worked as an Investment Specialist for many years.
After visiting BC, both Steven and Lynn were drawn to the upbeat and lively lifestyle in Vancouver and decided that they would move here. It has now been 8 years and they have not only started their family in the Fraser Valley, but after a lot of saving and planning, chose to fulfill their dream here too.
Chopsticks on Pho opened just a few months ago in Surrey. Steven and Lynn have managed to turn an empty space into a warm and modern restaurant that feels open and inviting at the same time. There is one large family style table in the middle of the restaurant, which is perfect for families, friends, and work groups too.
Lynn has created the menu using her Mom’s recipes, along with some of her own, to create a fusion style of Vietnamese food. She spends most of her time in the kitchen cooking, while Steven manages the front end of the restaurant. Some of the most popular items on the menu are “The Works” Pho, the Chicken Satay Bun (Vermicelli bowl) and of course the Crispy Spring Rolls. I had a refreshing Lychee Lime-Fizz and can’t wait to go back soon to try more dishes.
Chopsticks on Pho has a great space for private parties and though they are not licensed yet, they hope to be in time for Christmas celebrations. You can find (and like) Chopsticks on Pho on Facebook and follow their news and contests, such as free Pho for a week when you leave your business card.
Steven and Lynn have donated a gift certificate worth $30 for one lucky reader, which is sure to help you on your way to discovering their menu and leaving with a smile on your face. It helps that these owners serve every dish with love and wish for nothing but happiness for each of their customers. Worth a visit? Pho sure!
Congratulations to our winner – this contest is now closed.
