Spotlight: October 4, 2010 – JD Farms

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Autumn is one of our favourite times of the year. The leaves are turning, the evenings are cooler (any opportunity to snuggle up under a blanket is always welcome!), routines, Halloween candy, pumpkins and, oh yes, the Thanksgiving turkey.

This week’s feature is JD Farms. This place is one of our local favourites, a farm shop that we visit regularly with great enthusiasm – everything we try is deeeeelicious and with clean specialty turkey products, we know they are healthy, too!

JD Farms is run by Jack and Debbie Froese. Both of these fine folks grew up on Fraser Valley farms and now run this awesome, specialty turkey farm in Langley. Their turkeys are grain fed, antibiotic-free and the farm follows a stringent  certification program.

If you like turkey, be sure to pay a visit to their country-style bistro and store/deli.  They produce and sell some of the most delicious fresh and frozen turkey products. Turkey bacon, pies, sausages (try the mediterranean, yum), meatballs, meatloaf, wraps, pizzas, deli meats, soups/chowders Рthe list goes on. In the bistro you will find fresh turkey thighs, homemade soups, salads, turkey pot pie and scrumptious sandwiches. Their famous hot turkey sandwich is ridiculously yummy and definitely worth the visit or a quick drop-in to pick up dinner on the way home!

And then of course there are the whole turkeys. Pre-ordering is not necessary; they are available on a first come, first serve basis in the store. Fresh and frozen are available for the major turkey-gobbling holidays; frozen whole turkeys are available all year. You will also find JD Farms specialty turkeys at several retail locations.

JD Farms also carries a good selection of other local products at JD Farms – all sorts of things you need for your complete Thanksgiving feast! Cranberry products from Cranberries Naturally, rubs and sauces from House of Q, crackers from Gone Crackers, and lots of other tasty delights.

Aren’t we lucky here in the Fraser Valley? Local, organic farms all over the place. Yay! If you’re a turkey eater, be sure to check out JD. You won’t be disappointed.

  2. […] Farms Specialty Turkey Store. This is another local favourite that we’ve introduce you to before. Turkeys from JD are certified free of antibiotics and animal by-products. If that isn’t win […]
