Spotlight: Mozart Bakery/Marie Antoinette Cakes 04.11.11

When FVP was started in March 2009 the intention was, and it still is, to share local gems that we find on our adventures throughout the Fraser Valley. We are continuously shocked at how many of the hidden gems WE failed to notice for so long – though they are right in FVP HQ’s backyard! This sweet cafe is one of our favourite discoveries.

In 2003, Estelle Matheson and Luigi Guidolin purchased an existing bakery in Langley called Mozart Bakery. They did not change the name, but they certainly changed what Mozart Bakery is all about. Nestled in a strip mall in Walnut Grove, this European-style bakery offers the most scrumptious lunches, delectable European-inspired pastries, French-style mousse cakes, classic tortes and specialty cake creations that are as tasty as they are beautiful.

We love to visit the bakery and just stare at all the offerings, ha ha. They are works of art! Shortbread cookies, fruit tortes, cupcakes, scones, cream puffs, muffins, biscotti, fresh breads – the list of treats is huge and there is something on the menu to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth desires.

Mozart Bakery has a fantastic reputation for their specialty cake creations. These are the works of Estelle who tells us, simply, “I LOVE making cakes”. A trained Pastry Chef, Estelle has always been passionate about creating cakes and has done so as a Pastry Chef at area golf courses and restaurants. Her portfolio is impressive.

In 2011, Estelle launched Marie Antoinette Cakes, a division of Mozart Bakery. Same amazing cake creations – new name. We have enjoyed several of Estelle’s cakes and the fact that she is professionally trained is so very obvious – these cakes aren’t just visually appealing; they taste incredible, too! Estelle points out that decorating the cakes is what inspires her creative side, but quality ingredients and great flavours are equally important in these very pretty projects.

Mozart is a great place to visit when you want to be whisked away to a land of real food and delicious eats. Their lunches include savoury pasties and rolls, as well as fresh sandwiches made with loads of veggies and meats that they smoke/roast themselves. The cakes, breads and treats are all baked in-house. Their best seller is a lemon tart and, let us tell you, there’s good reason for that! They come in individual tart size or in the larger torte size for sharing and they are the perfect combination of tart and sweet. It’s absolutely worth a drive from anywhere to pick up one of these beauties.

Luigi, Estelle and their team also offer catering services. Breakfast platters, lunch & sweets, fruits & vegetables, open faced sandwiches and more are available to be ordered for business meetings, parties, weddings and other events.

If you are looking for a specialty cake or a deluxe torte that will wow any crowd, Mozart Bakery should be top of your list. If you’re looking for a delicious, fresh lunch at a fabulous neighbourhood cafe, again – this is your place! We promise you will fall in love, too.
