Spotlight: March 15/10 – Hari Om Yoga

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Team FVP has tried out our fair share of yoga studios over the years: some are great, some are strict, some are too hot or too cold. One of our favourite yoga studios in the Fraser Valley is Hari Om Yoga in Langley.  This non-denominational studio is comfortable, welcoming and has an excellent retail store attached to the studio area.

This fantastic local studio is run by Cormac McCarthy and Valeria Pongracz. It is almost two years old and is the only place in the Fraser Valley where you can find lululemon gear and apparel. Yes, lululemon in the Fraser Valley!!!  Woo hoo!!!  The 2000 square foot retail space also includes Vancouver-based Tonic, Fab Om, Be Present, Sigg and other great lifestyle brands. There is an excellent range of sizes for ‘normal’ size men and women – not just size tiny, if you know what we mean :)

Cormac comes from a strong athletic background.  When he was in his early forties he realized he would have to take up something to help him keep fit enough to keep up with the younger men on his touch football team.  Valeria had already been involved in yoga for many years, and she encouraged Cormac to give it a try.  He says it immediately became a part of his life. Compared to football, yoga offered a very different kind of strengthening exercise for the body and relaxation for the mind. Cormac went on to train in the states with Baron Baptiste.  Nowadays he loves to teach the Power Flow Yoga, but explains the importance of countering extreme exercise with a gentle practice such as Restorative Yoga or Yin/Yang Yoga.  Hari Om Yoga offers an extensive menu of yoga styles by nine different teachers.  Having this diversity in teaching styles and yoga classes ensures they meet the needs of everyone in the community.

Hari Om Yoga really does have something for everyone.  Their clients range from age 9 to a woman in her 80’s, hockey players to dancers, athletes and office workers.  It’s a space where everyday men and women feel comfortable taking part in a variety of yoga styles, in a beautiful space with supportive teachers.

We enjoy the retail selection at Hari Om Yoga, the laid back disposition of the staff (you are encouraged to visit the beautiful water fountain during hot yoga, not forced to stay!) and the huge variety of classes they offer.  We’d love for you to give it a try, too! On April 1, 2010, we are giving away four prize packs from Hari Om Yoga.  These packs include one free week of yoga for you & three friends/family.  If you’ve not tried yoga before, what a better way than to try it out with your peeps!  This prize also includes a $10 off coupon for lululemon purchases of $100+.  How do you win?  All subscribers are automatically entered to win, and all new subscribers in March 2010 will be entered to win as well.  So forward this message to your friends & family to give them the opportunity to win as well!

All attendees to FVP’s 1st Anniversary celebrations will also receive a fantastic gift from Hari Om Yoga – see you there!

Thanks for your fabulous yoga centre Cormac & Valeria.  We’re lucky to have such supportive, wonderful folks doing business in the Fraser Valley.
