Potato chips are one of those things that we all hate to love. Their salty goodness, satisfying crunch, mmm… they are a perfect, unhealthy snack. What would you think if we told you we had found a healthy potato chip option? A real potato chip (none of this pressed potato flake business for us snack conniseurs, thank you!) that is not loaded with seven-syllable chemicals.

A small team of locals, lead by Owner & President Sepp Amsler, are the folks behind Naturally Home Grown Foods. Their product is a healthy kettle potato chip, Hardbite Potato Chips! Located in Maple Ridge, this busy potato chip factory is dedicated to sustainability and supporting local. Their potatoes are grown locally, staff lives nearby, bags are sourced locally, too. Whenever they can purchase local, they do so and very little is imported from outside BC for the production of Hardbite Potato Chips.

Hardbite potato chips are prepared in small batches. They are hand stirred and sorted by hand. Real people dote over every small batch that is produced, ensuring only quality chips make their way into your hands (and mouths!). We had an opportunity to visit the potato chip factory to see them in action. You can visit, too – school groups and other organizations are welcomed to book a tour.

We love, love, love that Hardbite chip packages contain no chemical preservatives. Their plain flavoured chips list the ingredient as, simply: potatoes, non-hydrogenated sunflower oil, non-hydrogenated canola oil and crystallized rock salt. Really, who wants to eat something called monosodium glutamate anyways?

There are several flavours available to suit every palate: All Natural, BBQ, Honey Dijon, Jalapeno Chips, Cheddar and Onion, Salt and Vinegar, Smokin Sticks, Onion and Yogurt and Jalapeno Sticks.

Hardbite Potato Chips have lots of yummy uses, outside of being a pretty tasty snack on their own. Crush them up and sprinkle on salads or ‘bread’ chicken, fish or other meats. The plain chips make a great scoop for your favourite dip!

We are excited and proud to have this hardworking, dedicated team right in our backyard. Stop by one of these retail outlets across Canada to pick up a bag or three and enjoy the crunchy, tasty, healthy snacky goodness. Of course they must still be enjoyed in moderation, but if you’re going to indulge every now and then, we think it’s best to support local and choose this healthier option!
