Ladies, we know you’ll agree with what we’re saying here. And gents, you may or may not appreciate this, but it is a lot of work to have a woman’s body. Women’s bodies change in puberty, then again at pregnancy, after pregnancy, at menopause. What part of the body takes a huge brunt of these changes? The breasts. They’re forever changing, and it’s not a simple task to find beautiful underthings that fit properly. That’s why we’re thankful for great shops like Feminine Form. Owner Sarah Vandekerkhove knows what it’s like to experience these changes and decided to open up a shop of her own, to help local women find beautiful comfort and function, regardless of their changing bodies!
Pre-pregnancy, Sarah describes herself as having been a buxom woman. Why is it that the larger the bra size, the more utilitarian it looks? Sure, there are new lingerie lines popping up to address this specific market, but it has been a long time coming. After years of hearing her husband’s complaints and being frustrated with the local selection, she decided to open her own lingerie shop. After nursing two children, Sarah’s body has changed once again, giving her even more affinity with customers.
Though they do have an extensive collection in sizes A-H, Feminine Form is not just about bras. They carry a fabulous selection of lingerie, comfy pyjamas, lounge wear, tights, great accessories and high-end alternative lingerie. You’ll find Pleasure State, Simone Perele, Spanx, Hanky Panky, The Cats Pajamas, Chantelle, Bra Bling, and lots of other fun and fine lines at this great Fraser Valley lingerie boutique. The sassy Marlie’s Dekkers line is also now available at Feminine Form, one of the only retailers in Western Canada.
We asked Sarah about a staggering statistic we’d heard, about how many women wear the incorrect size bra. Sarah noted that while you may not be wearing the wrong size, many women often wear the wrong style of bra. So many women try on a bra, stand in front of a mirror and declare “it fits!”. When trying on underthings, it’s very important to sit, lift up your arms, put your shirt on and move around as you would in everyday activities. A bra might look great until you lean over and then look out!
The lovely team at Feminine Form is so attentive at helping you find the perfect fit, whether it’s a bra or a full ensemble you’re putting together. They are some of the most helpful staff we’ve come across in a long time – and that says a lot, we’re shopaholics! Sarah tells us that having a team who loves what they do and who are given responsibilities based on their interests is what really makes the difference. If you have any questions about tights, head down to Feminine Form and ask for Charmaine – she’s an expert!
This Thursday, February 11th, Feminine Form is hosting a Men’s Night. From 6PM – 9PM gentlemen can visit the store for a guy’s-night-only affair. The Feminine Form gals will help you pick out something special for your lady, in a totally comfortable environment. Ladies, if you’d like to help out your man, you can pop in to Feminine Form ahead of time and fill out a wish list and a profile with your measurements/sizes. They will also be open late on Friday evening, for those who need to pick up a lil something before Valentine’s Day on Sunday. We asked Sarah for a good gift idea for Valentine’s. She says there is such a selection and it depends on personality (sassy alternative wear vs something soft and slinky), but that a great pair of Hanky Panky underwear is always a fun and welcome gift!
Thanks for sharing your expertise with FVP, and with all the locals, Sarah. We’re spoiled to have you in our neighbourhood
Oh! You’ve also got to check out these beautiful little purses at Feminine Form. They are handmade in Cambodia by women seeking to lift themselves out of poverty. Every single penny from the sale of these bags is returned to the Cambodian women, providing them with materials and training to build a well that will give their families clean water for life. These women are part of a program developed by HOPE International Development Agency in New Westminster. The handbags are made of spun raw silk and they are gorgeous! There’s one in every colour (literally, you have to see the extensive colour selection), and the most expensive one is $35!!! Pick up a little clutch to take out on your Valentine’s date, or for anytime. Our photography doesn’t do them justice, they really are beautiful.
