Spotlight: February 1/10 – Simply Perfect Flowers

Monday, February 1st, 2010

We absolutely love (LOVE!!) fresh flowers.  They really do help one appreciate the simple, pure beauty of nature, of life.  Any bouquet of flowers is gorgeous, but an arrangement created by a truly talented floral artist can be breathtaking. Alexis McLeod, of Abbotsford’s Simply Perfect Flowers, is one of the talented artists we speak of.  From the displays of home decor items in her shop to the stunning floral arrangements she presents to customers, Alexis’ creativity shines through.

Alexis has been working in the floral industry for 21 years.  In 2004 she purchased Simply Perfect Flowers, though she has been working there since 2000.  Until recently, Alexis and her family were living in Sechelt, where they learned to appreciate the small town  life, a more relaxed way of living and the boutique-style shopping experiences.  That is some kind of dedication to doing what she loves – it sure is a long commute to Sechelt! We’re happy to have you back home in Abbotsford, Alexis!

Alexis believes in the experience of visiting a store, regardless of what they sell.  The boutique-style shopping, the personal interaction, the little extras are all very important to her.  One of our favourite extras at Simply Perfect Flowers is the sparkles on the gerbera daisies.  That one little, inexpensive, thoughtful gesture is recalled by many we’ve spoken to about this great little flower shop.

In 2008, Alexis became a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers.  This is quite an accomplishment, as there are only a handful of designers recognized in Canada. Each year, she travels down to the states to attend the AIFD symposium. This year she will be on stage, an honour that Alexis is very excited about.  “It’s like the Oscars of my industry,” she says with a big smile!

Simply Perfect Flowers offers fresh flowers for all occasions, as well as permanent botanicals. They specialize in tropicals and orchids – look at the gorgeous selection of orchid colours (above)!  Their contemporary designs and forward-thinking in the floral industry is fabulous.

Alexis shares that her favourite part about her career is the excitement of being able to work with extremely beautiful products.  Capturing emotions with florals (sorrow, happiness, congratulations) and the power to change someone’s day with her products are really important to her.  Seeing a happy bouquet going out the door, knowing the smile it will bring to someone’s face, fills Alexis with pure happiness!  She is very involved in the local business community, and commented on the amazing mentorship and networking opportunities that are available locally.  Whenever an opportunity arises, Alexis and her team are thrilled to participate in local charity work and networking events.

We hope you’ll stop by this sweet Abbotsford florist soon to pick up a bouquet for your sweetheart, a happy arrangement to make one of your favourite people smile, or a brightly coloured bouquet for yourself – just because.  Bring your little ones by too – there’s always a sparkly gerbera daisy waiting for them.  You’ll soon find out why Simply Perfect Flowers has been voted #1 Florist in Abbotsford several times.
