Where to stay in the Fraser Valley? There are many beautiful hotels, rustic cabins and hundreds of fabulous campgrounds. There is also a scattering of quaint, comfortable bed and breakfast establishments. B&Bs are great for an overflow of out of town guests, a girl’s night out, a romantic evening away from the kids or a family vacation. We often enjoy mini vacations here in our own Fraser Valley – there are so many great little places to check out and they are close to home! Jacquie & John of South Garden B&B recently invited us to stay and we are excited to share this little gem with you.
South Garden B&B is located in Agassiz, just a 3 minute drive from Harrison Hot Springs. It is set on a serene, beautiful piece of property backing onto Green Mountain. We enjoyed a night in Cedar’s Cottage, a separate building from the main bed and breakfast. This private cottage comes complete with a fabulously comfortable bed, futon, tv, stereo, dining set, small kitchen facilities, snacks, a soaker tub, air conditioning, electric fireplace and a full bathroom. There’s not much left for wanting here… they even provide knit slippers! We had the opportunity to check out the other suites inside the main bed and breakfast home. They are all comfortable, modern suites with private washrooms and all the creature comforts of home.
Upon arrival we enjoyed some Canadian Hazelnut treats, non-alcoholic bubbly and a peaceful swing on the property’s hammocks. We drove into nearby Harrison Hot Springs to enjoy dinner on the beach, then returned for an evening of relaxation. It was too warm out to enjoy the hot tub outside, but the sitting area by the hot tub had some chairs that we sat at to enjoy the sounds of the small waterfall.
In times past, a B&B meant shared washroom facilities and breakfast at a big table with the hosts and all of the other guests. While some B&Bs do still offer communal breakfasts as an option, South Garden offers private breakfasts in each of their suites. Every evening guests fill out their desired breakfast items on cards left in their rooms and the following morning breakfast is delivered in a picnic basket. We couldn’t decide what to eat so we tried a little bit of a lot of things! Waffles, omelette, blueberry scones, croissants, fresh fruit, blended fruit shake and lots of other goodies are available. It was quite the feast.
South Garden B&B offers a great Fraser Valley golf package, a divine culinary package, girl’s time out package, a romantic getaway package and spa services from Simply Indulge Mobile Spa. Next time we visit South Garden B&B we will be sure to bring our running shoes (it was hot flip flop weather). A 10 minute walk up the back of the property leads to a deck that family built. This deck has an absolutely fabulous view, and is the start of a 20 minute loop hike/walk. What a great way to relax and enjoy nature.
Jacquie was a fabulous host and by reading the entries in the Cedar’s Cottage guest book, we are not the only ones who think so! There are entries (in almost every day on the calendar!) from folks from all over the world, praising their time at South Garden B&B. Being a Mom to 6 kids and having a background as an RN, we think Jacquie’s caring personality is a great fit for a B&B host. It is so nice to be pampered and to have every little comfort seen to on your time away from home!
