Fort Langley is the perfect place for taking your time to look around and enjoy the unique shops and restaurants. Most of us already know this, but did you also know that it hosts one of the most adorable stores ever? Paper Moon is in the recently renovated strip mall located on Glover Rd and has been there for over 12 years. When I met the store’s Owner, Carrie Davis, it was easy to see where the fun-filled store gets its creative feel from.
Prior to opening Paper Moon, Carrie sold office supplies for her Dad’s company, but felt that it wasn’t a job she wanted to do long-term. She also deejayed with her sister, which came in handy later when choosing a name for her business. Her and her sister chose the name Paper Moon from their extensive song lists. It was a song written in the 30’s and was also used in a movie by the same name that was made in the 70’s.
With the help and support of her parents, Carrie opened Paper Moon in October 2000. For the first few years of the store’s opening, it carried a variety of supplies and products for scrapbooking, as well as some giftware. Over the years, it has evolved into what Carrie describes now as “random objects of hilarity”. I couldn’t agree more.
Carrie has a passion for each of her hand-picked products that she carries in the store and you will probably find yourself laughing out loud at some of the fun items available. She stocks products that she loves, but is also quick to stock the hottest trends, such as the moustache (moustache ornaments) and believe it or not, bacon themed items (bacon tie anyone?).
Carrie assured me that the owl love that has lasted for almost 3 years now is still going strong (yahoo!), but the next thing on her radar is the dinosaur. T-Rex’s are about to take over and Paper Moon is ready!
Some of the other popular lines carried in the store are Fred & Friends, Lug and Melissa & Doug. The Anne Taintor line of products is exclusive to Paper Moon and offers a lot of laughs in the way of retro-looking magnets, napkins, and mugs with witty sayings on them. You will also find an amazing, extensive selection of unique and funny cards. Spend some time and you will definitely find the perfect card for your crazy friend, your weird aunt or your loveable, but quirky brother.
You will also find everything you need to present your awesome gifts. Off-beat wrapping paper, adorable gift bags, bows and tags are all available too. Paper Moon is online and on Facebook, where their weekly specials are posted every Monday. You can sign up on their website for e-news to stay in the loop on the latest and greatest being offered at the store. In 2013, Paper Moon will offer online shopping too!
Don’t be surprised if you lose hours of time in the store, buy random things that you never knew you needed, or get greeted by an adorable French Bulldog named Pho. These are just a few of the crazy, fun things that happen at Paper Moon.
To celebrate the holidays, Carrie is gifting one of our readers a $50 gift card to spend at Paper Moon! Please leave a comment on this post to be entered to win. Winner will be chosen at random on December 10, 2012.
