Monday, May 11th, 2009

We love wine.  A lot.  We think rounding up some friends and a few bottle o’ vino is the perfect way to spend a Summer’s evening.  We hope our subscribers do too, as FraserValleyPulse.com is giving away a FREE Summer Private Wine Event to one lucky subscriber on May 18th!  A wine expert will come to your home with 6 bottles of wine and will host a fun & interactive wine education session for six to ten people. Wines can be customized to your preference or food selections. Parties are also available for groups of eleven to eighteen people, or customized parties can also be arranged. Who will be hosting this fabulous event, you ask?  John Gerum of Maple Ridge’s West Coast Wine Education!

pict0028Working at a number of 5 diamond hotels is where John Gerum learned all about wine. He has worked as a Sommelier and Maitre’d in top hotels throughout North America.  In 1998, during their major renovation, John helped educate managers, servers and chefs at Hotel Vancouver, on all things wine.  He really enjoyed teaching this subjects to different groups of people.  Once John got married, the hospitality hours and lifestyle seemed less desirable, so he decided to enroll in Douglas College’s Self Employment Program.

Armed with this newfound knowledge on how to run a business, and his extensive knowledge of the wine industry, John & his wife Carolyn began West Coast Wine Education, based out of Maple Ridge.  West Coast Wine Education teaches the general public all about wine, while focusing on making it a fun experience.  Public classes are taught at the Port Moody Arts Centre, Langley & New West Continuing Education, and Ridge Meadows College.  John is also available to teach courses to private functions, corporate events and wine training for hospitality staff.

This wine tasting event features new releases from 18 of BC’s top wineries. Event is from 6 – 9 pm, and your ticket includes free parking.  Cheese & light snacks will be available, but it is recommended you eat dinner before heading to the wine tasting.  18 wineries – that’s a lot of samples, dinner beforehand is probably a good recommendation.  West Coast Wine Education has generously donated two FREE ticketsfor another lucky FraserValleyPulse.com subscriber to win and attend!  This draw will also take place on May 18th.  Excellent!
