Pulse Spotlight, June 22/09 – Life Cycles

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

One of our New Year’s resolutions here at FraserValleyPulse.com was to spend more time outside. What better way to explore our local neighbourhoods and trails than on a new bicycle!   One of the great local places we discovered on our search for the perfect bikes was Life Cycles in Abbotsford!

Owner Harvey Bergen has such a great story.  Rewind more than two decades ago – Harvey travelled from home, his family’s farm in Manitoba, to work at a summer camp in Cultus Lake.  A girl stole his heart, and with his father’s blessing he decided to stay in BC, marry the girl and start a new life.  While working a number of “dead-end” jobs, Harvey took up a new hobby – mountain biking.  His dynamic personality shone through as one day he decided to (successfully) impersonate a sales person at a bike shop he frequented. And so it began!  With a new baby at home, Harvey decided it was time to commit to a career doing something he loved.  A rise in housing prices, and an encouraging word from the lovely lady who stole his heart all those years ago, saw Harvey able to borrow some capital against his home, make an offer on a little shop in Abbotsford called Life Cycles, and work hard towards what is now a bustling local business. After 18 years, three locations and many satisfied customers, Life Cycles Bike Shop continues to be a local favourite!

Harvey shared how much he values relationships – with his suppliers, many of which he has been working with for more than a decade; with his staff, employee moral is super important to him; and of his clients. While interviewing Harvey, he took the time to welcome each customer (most by name).  We can clearly see a key ingredient in Life Cycle’s success is the commitment of Harvey Bergen.

Life Cycles Bike Shop staff are knowledgeable, helpful and lots of fun. They are talented with repairs and can help you find the perfect bike for your needs.  Life Cycles carries great brands such as Rocky Mountain,SpecializedSanta Cruz, Electra & more. They of course also carry a large selection of helmets, gear and accessories for your bicycles.  You’ll also find a great selection of gear from FoxDakineOakley and many other great brands.

A wonderful story of how a really great guy built a successful business with passion, perseverance, and a fantastic personality. If you’re in the market for some new wheels, or need a tune-up on your cycle, visit Harvey and his awesome team at Life Cycles Bike Shop.
