Pulse Spotlight, July 20/09 – Ladybug Organics

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Nyjal Brownson, owner of Ladybug Organics, is such a great guy! We love meeting Fraser Valley entrepreneurs each week, and hearing their stories.  This week we learned how a European bike tour and one summer of organic farming triggered a whole new career path for Nyjal.

Originally from New Zealand, Nyjal met his Canadian wife Andrea while on a bike tour in Europe.  He cycled 5000 KM, and during this time Nyjal soaked up the enriching organic farming lifestyle and cultures of market gardens.  The two dated long distance for a while, eventually married, and then both moved to Langley in the mid 90’s. Nyjal’s introduction to getting his hands dirty in gardening was on a local one acre lot.  For one season he grew organic vegetables for 25 families on this one acre parcel! Amazed at what he could produce with a small space, and knowing the incomparable value in organic eating, he and Andrea wanted to create somewhere to offer this lifestyle to people year-round. And so, Ladybug Organics was established!

produce_binAs well as organic produce home deliveryLadybug Organics has a store in Port Kells, Surrey.  Here you’ll find great organic groceries from Annie’s, Barbara’s Bakery, Silk and loads of other products.  Ladybug Organics‘ online ordering system offers over 1200 organic grocery products, and over 50 certified organic produce items.  Impressive!  Nyjal always supports local Fraser Valley farmers when produce is in season, and when they can work directly with the farmers. They work with great local co-operative organic farms such as Glen Valley Organic Farm in Abbotsford, and many local producers including Rainbow’s End Farm and Silver Hills Bread.

Ladybug Organics carry a large variety of organic household and beauty products as well. You really can do all of your shopping through their online ordering system!  Also good to note: many of the foods carried at Ladybug Organics are gluten, nut and/or dairy free.

We are loving the recipes on Ladybug Organic’s website.  You know how sometimes you get a bunch of great, fresh veggies and fruits, but you draw a blank of what to make with them?  This is a fun list of quick & easy recipes, listed by what produce you have on hand!

Ladybug delivers throughout the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland. We think this is an awesome service for busy folks, or those who are unable to get around.  Regardless of how busy you and your family become, knowing Ladybug Organics will deliver fresh, organic, healthy produce to your door each week is a welcome relief!  Thanks, Nyjal :)
