The end of summer means lots of great things… back to school, digging out the sweatshirts & jackets, and… corn. Sweet local corn is one of the Fraser Valley’s finest attributes. And what comes along with corn? Corn mazes! They are an absolute riot, and great local corn mazes like Meadows Maze have added petting zoos, pony rides and lots more to make this a full day of family fun!
Meadows Maze has been run by the Hopcott family since 1999. This year’s maze is an impressive homage to the Golden Ears Bridge. Each year the Hopcott’s come up with a theme, then send their thoughts, photos and ideas to a corn maze designer in Idaho. Once they have decided upon a design, the designer visits the Hopcott’s corn fields and creates a masterpiece in as little as 8 hours! We were shocked at how quickly this can be done with a GPS system!
Meadows Maze is a day of fun for the family. The kids will love a ride on Corny’s Maze Train or the hay wagon, a slide down Meadows Mountain, a demonstration in the bee observatory or a visit with the goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys and ponies at Corny’s Barnyard Friend’s petting zoo. A full concession is available, offering hot dogs and hamburgers to keep the family fueled for a full day of fun at Meadows Maze.
The Fraser Valley is home to other great corn mazes as well. The Bose Family Corn Maze in Surrey‘s design this year is the 2009 World Police Fire Games logo. The Chilliwack Corn Maze has a great 2010 Olympics design for 2009.
Meadows Maze is open until October 12, 2009. Remember to bring sunscreen and some water – the maze can take up to 2 hours to complete!
