Great Gatsby Garden Party

Monday, August 12th, 2013

Shannon and I recently attended the 1st Annual Great Gatsby Garden Party at Pretty Estates Resort.  Not only was this an amazing venue, but we loved the dress-up and get fancy theme!  If you’ve seen the recent movie version of the Great Gatsby, you’ll know that this era in history was an opulent, indulgent time where no amount of jewelry was too much, where the champagne flowed and where the parties lasted all night!

The Pretty Estates Resort was the perfect venue for this event, with Rowena’s Inn on the River being the host location.  This English-manor, once the Pretty’s family home, has been converted into an amazing Bed & Breakfast.  Like the name says, this resort is next to the Fraser River, with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains and it also overlooks part of the Sandpiper Golf Course.

We were welcomed with a glass of champagne and treated to a Flapper-esque headpiece to wear during the event.  As we strolled along the garden path towards the garden and pool area, we had the chance to take photos with a 1929 Rolls-Royce Springfield Phantom I Pall Mall Touring Limousine.  There were multiple vendors tables set up, displaying some great local talent.  I fell in love with the accessories from Project K and the beautiful wildlife artwork from Nicole Ruuska.

As we sipped our champagne and strolled the grounds, there were hors d’oeuvres served and we also had the chance to enjoy Afternoon Tea inside the Inn.   This was such a perfect setting for a throwback to another time.  Tables and lounge chairs were set up poolside and it was so fun to see people in time-period costumes enjoying the sunshine.

Throughout the afternoon, we were treated to the music of a live band, Soul2Life and the occasional dance number from Night and Day Dance.  With a party like this, there had to be some fantastic door prizes, and there were.  In fact, our very own Shannon won the Grand prize, an amethyst and diamond ring from Lanka Jewels.  Some of the other lucky ducks walked away with gift certificates to River’s Edge Restaurant and for Afternoon Tea for two, as well as gift baskets from Domaine De Chaberton and Kilby Historical Site.

It was the perfect way to spend an afternoon, enjoying the beautiful surroundings, good friends and toasting to a “grander” time.  This is one annual event that we hope to attend again and hope to see you at in the future.
