Have you been putting off cleaning out your closets? Are you meaning to get around to purging your children’s too small items? Now is a fantastic time to hop to it, and create some space in your closets and drawers! Once you’ve decided what needs to be re-homed, bring it down to any one of the Fraser Valley cefa (core education and fine arts) Junior Kindergarten locations.
cefa’s Clothes for Kids Drive launched on November 20th, and will be ongoing through to January 15th. They will be accepting donations of clothing for both women and children, and will be delivering them to the YWCA Crabtree Corner, which is a Downtown East Side transition house. Crabtree Corner’s mandate is to assist marginalized single mothers and their children, when they need a hand up most. This wonderful program uses the clothing items in their transition home, rather than reselling them for profit. There is an especially high need for the following items: jackets/coats/winter items, baby sleepers, shirts & pants.
This part is really heartwarming: as part of the cefa curriculum, the Junior Kindergarten students will individually create special notes that will be attached to each of the donated garments. The letters from the students will convey empathy, love and respect to the recipients – which is a priceless lesson at any age.
But wait! That’s not all! Any children who donate to the Clothes for Kids Drive, and are not currently affiliated with cefa, receive a free movie pass! This pass can be redeemed in the end of January, and will allow them to take in a free movie and munch some tasty popcorn at a movie night event at any of the 8 cefa schools in the Lower Mainland.
