In The Company of Friends – 10.10.11

Sunday, October 9th, 2011

In our current world of big box stores full of generic knick knacks and tidbits, it’s refreshing to find a store that offers unique and one of a kind items.  When you visit In the Company of Friends in Cloverdale, you will discover just this.  Not only will you find personal and adorable treasures that are perfect for gifts (for others or yourself), but you might be inspired to spruce up your own space too!

In the Company of Friends celebrates its 9 year anniversary this December and is not only a family business, but a business full of support from friends.  Barbara St. Laurent, a married Mother of two grown children, originally bought the space from one of her daughters and expanded it into what it is today.

Vedder Mountain Grille – Pulse Spotlight – 10.03.11

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

We don’t know about you, but we take every opportunity we can get to slow things down for a while and take in all life has to offer. Since we can’t just take off on vacation whenever we feel like it, we love to find great places in the Fraser Valley that allow us to relax, even for just a little while.

Close enough for a Sunday drive, but quiet and relaxing enough to make it feel like a mini escape, Vedder Mountain Grille is one of those fabulously relaxing places we speak of! They are cooking up homemade comfort food and it’s just like driving over for a visit at Grandma’s house.

Hard to miss with its bright blue exterior, this sweet Chilliwack restaurant stands out along the main strip in Yarrow.

Scoop-N-Save – Pulse Spotlight – 09.26.11

Sunday, September 25th, 2011
Mesothelioma

If cupcake toppers, vibrant coloured sugars and gum paste flowers make you weak in the knees, you will want to pay a visit to Scoop-N-Save in Langley! It is the cake decorators utopia, a hobby baker’s delight. It’s colourful, fun and proof that listening to your mother’s advice is usually a wise idea.

29 years ago, Janice DeRuiter opened Scoop-N-Save in Surrey. The concept was bulk food sales, much the same as you will now find at some popular retail giants. It was unique to Scoop-N-Save for a time, but as others started to offer this service, Scoop-N-Save headed in a new direction.

Big Feast Bistro & Catering – Pulse Spotlight – 09.12.11

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

The word feast usually evokes a certain image of medieval villagers “cheers-ing” each other with turkey legs and cups of mead, indulging in a sumptuous overload of food, but for our latest business Owner and Chef, Mike Mulcahy, the word means much, much more.  In keeping with the definition of the word, it is a meal shared, usually in celebration.  It’s about a celebration of life, of family and friends, and of our extreme fortune to be in a country where food is readily available to us.  Welcome to Big Feast Bistro & Catering.

Located on a busy street in Maple Ridge, Big Feast Bistro was opened in the spring of 2010 by Owners and husband/wife team Mike and Stacy Mulcahy.

After a brief, but picturesque drive up Sumas Mountain in Abbotsford, a sight emerges that boggles the senses.  A massive structure that is both grand and modern is nestled amongst the mountainous, woodsy area.  This beautiful building is a Bed & Breakfast, as well as a Corporate Lodge called The Lodge at Twin Creeks.

The lodge was built in 1989 and was meant to be the home for a multi-generational family.  They intended to grow their families here and continue to pass it on through generations to come.

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

When it comes to home decor or giving gifts, we love the unique. One of a kind items, especially those created by hand, offer something that mass-produced items simply cannot. Every time we see The Glass Hive Studio and their glass pieces at an event, we are mesmerized by the bold colours and pretty gift ideas. It was time for a visit to the studio!

Erikson’s Daylily Gardens – FVP Spotlight – 08.22.11

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

Living in a bustling city can be tough – and sometimes it’s all too easy for us to forget to stop and smell the flowers. Although for Pam Erikson, founder of Erikson’s Daylily Gardens, this is hardly ever an issue!

When Pam and her husband Tom moved into their new home in the Township of Langley in 1987, they knew they wanted to create a memorable garden. Little did they know that 24 years later, they would be sharing their backyard garden with visitors from all over the city, province and beyond!

Little Beetle Bistro – Pulse Spotlight – 08.08.11

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

You know when you travel down a road you haven’t been in a while, sometimes something catches your eye and you think  “when did that get there?!” That’s exactly what happened to us when we noticed the newly opened Little Beetle Bistro in Chilliwack! We were so delighted to see that what used to be an old farmhouse has now been converted into a bustling destination for breakfast, lunch, dessert or even a coffee break!

Little Beetle Bistro may be easy to miss because of the location. It is tucked away near the corner of Unsworth & South Sumas, though you certainly can’t miss it if you are already in the neighborhood. Why? We’ll give you a hint… it’s colourful!
