We packed up the FVP mobile with our bicycles, some water and our helmets and headed over to the Barnston Island ferry. The ferry ride is just five minutes across the Fraser River and it is free of charge.  The ferry runs daily from 6:15AM, on demand, until 11:55PM (12:55AM on the weekends).

Barston Island is a serene, enjoyable place to ride your bike.  We passed only 3 cars on our hour-long bike ride (we stopped to take lots of photos, if you don’t do so the ride would be much shorter).  There are all kinds of farm animals and birds (we saw loads of eagles!) to stop and watch.  Every so often you’ll pass a little opening in the trees that will lead down to a small cove or beach area along the river – the perfect place to enjoy a snack or sit and take in the soft sounds of the island and river.

To arrive at the Barnston Island ferry, head North on 176th Street in Surrey until you can’t go any further… turn right onto 104th Avenue and travel a few blocks until you reach the ferry parking lot at the river’s edge.
