Review: Liberte Baby Yogurt

Monday, April 15th, 2013

I’m excited to have been one of the people to join the YMC testing panel and try out Liberté baby, a brand new yogurt line for wee ones. My son is 9 months old and I was planning to introduce dairy now, so this worked out perfectly!

The first flavour, or Step 1, is plain yogurt. The box says it is lightly sweetened. This is the one we tried first, as it specifies this one is for ages 9 months plus.

He wasn’t sure if he liked it or not. The texture is super creamy – that part I don’t think he minded. But it is plain yogurt and though it is ever so slightly seasoned, it’s still quite tart. I tried it myself and loved it, but I really enjoy plain yogurt. The creamy consistency is fantastic; I would eat this yogurt myself.

The Step 2 notes that it is for 12 months plus, but I allowed him to taste it anyways. This one was banana flavoured and, at first, received the same – I think the texture was new and interesting. Cold, creamy, thick… a little different from warm pureed yams or crunchy puffs! With this flavour he asked for more and ate several spoonfuls happily. Clear sweet tooth, this kid. Just like his Mummy. It’s a nice, subtle banana taste. Too many banana flavoured foods taste like sickly banana marshmallow candies – yeeeeuck! This is refreshing.

At $2.69 for a 4 pack where I purchased it, this is decently priced. Each container is a good portion, maybe even a little too much for my 9 month old at this point. I think we will buy this again in a few more weeks and give it another go.

I found Liberté baby at Planet Organic in Coquitlam. Apparently it is available at several Walmart locations through the Lower Mainland.

Pink Shirt Day 2013

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

image003February 27, 2013 is CKNW’s Pink Shirt Day. This day supports the CKNW Orphan’s Fund and Boys and Girls Clubs in communities across Western Canada.

London Drugs, a key sponsor for this annual event, is once again selling Pink Shirt Day T-shirts for $9.80. They are available in adult and youth sizes from small to XXL. Over the past six years, London Drugs has helped raise more than $330,000 through the Pink Shirt Day Campaign.

About the CKNW Orphans’ Fund Pink Shirt Day: CKNW started Pink Shirt Day six years ago following an anti-bullying stand of two grade 12 Nova Scotia students. The students took action after witnessing a grade 9 student being bullied for wearing pink to school and encouraged their schoolmates to wear pink to send a message against bullying. Since then, CKNW’s Pink Shirt Day Campaign has sent a powerful message that Bullying Stops Here and we should Make Some Noise Against Bullying. In Canada, every seven minutes someone is bullied on a playground in Canada (www.bullying.org). Bullying is demoralizing, wrecks self-esteem and has led to shootings and suicides in Canada. Bullying happens in many different forms but its purpose is to make someone else feel bad on purpose. Through awareness and education Canadians can continue to take a stand against bullying.

There are several London Drugs locations in the Fraser Valley. Click here to find the location closest to you.

Frugal Fun: Games Night In

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Social events certainly have a tendency of adding up quickly, especially if you enjoy regular evenings out with family and friends. Spending time with people you love is important, but if you aren’t careful, regular nights out on the town (wherever your destination) could leave you running short on your grocery money. Since this isn’t good for anyone, we’ve come up with a great Frugal Fun idea to help you continue being a social butterfly, without breaking the bank – plan a game night in! When’s the last time you took part in a game of Twister? We think however long ago it was – it was too long ago!

Not like they used to be, board games have changed a lot over the years. With the number of great party games on the market these days, a games night in is the perfect combination of casual dinner party interaction, laughter and a little dose of healthy competition.

MomCafe Launches in Fraser Valley

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

I’m big into networking. It helps continuously expand one’s network, as well as developing great partnerships and friendships in business. I was happy to be invited as a guest to the MomCafe Fraser Valley launch last week, and even more thrilled to discover that it’s a really great group that I’m excited to join.

Holly Klaassen is the owner of MomCafe Fraser Valley, a group she has brought to the Fraser Valley after years of positive experience with the Vancouver chapter. This unique networking group’s focus is to bring together professionally-minded moms, non-moms and even dads too (though there weren’t any brave dads at the launch).

Creating Meaningful Family Traditions

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

The holidays are often stressful – so many gifts to buy, cards to address, parties to give and attend. Sometimes it can be hard to enjoy the best parts of the seasons – your family and friends – because of all the “stuff” crammed in there. This year, instead of lining up to buy a toy that will be forgotten by next Christmas, why not try to create memories that will last for a lifetime instead?

We asked around and here are a few ways to create meaningful traditions for your family this holiday season – without spending a ton of money.

10 Things To Do In The Fraser Valley When It’s Raining

Monday, November 1st, 2010

I have two tinies that are not yet school age (and another one on the way). Autumn has arrived with its grey and rainy days here in the Fraser Valley but that doesn’t mean we have to spend our days in the house watching Kids CBC. Here are our favourite things to do when it’s pouring rain outside.

  • I don’t know what it is about rainy days that create an insatiable need for me to bake but it must be genetic. Few activities are as heart warming as a cozy morning spent inside, baking cookies or banana bread.

Simple Face Painting Ideas

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Halloween is just around the corner and while many kids are over-the-top excited for it, many adults cringe at the thought of finding and purchasing or making a costume for their kids or themselves.  It doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming and can be as simple as a closet assembled outfit and some clever face painting.

The great news is that you don’t have to be a professional artist to pull off some of these simple face painting ideas.  You may want to purchase some non-toxic, water based body or face paints but can also use eye and lip pencils from yours (or your partner’s) makeup collection at home.
