Adopting a healthy lifestyle and sticking to a retirement plan can add years to your life. That’s the message organizers plan to convey at the first annual Fraser Valley Retirement Planning and Healthy Living Show, May 25 to 27 at the Chilliwack Heritage Park. The new trade show takes a holistic approach to planning for your future by combining health and stress management with financial planning for retirement. The event will featuring an array of displays and demonstrations of products and services, plus presentations from various speakers, including B.C.’s popular media doctor, Dr. Art Hister.

“There’s no doubt that life is busy these days and extremely expensive, especially in B.C., but that shouldn’t stop you from living your life to the fullest and planning for your retirement,” said Gary Moran, owner of Fantasy Farms and producer of the Fraser Valley Retirement Planning and Healthy Living Show. “It’s never too early or too late, to put your healthy living and retirement plan in place, and stick with it.”

Presenters at the the Fraser Valley Retirement Planning and Healthy Living Show include key note speaker, Dr. Art Hister, a local celebrity doctor and well known medical and healthy living expert with weekly broadcasts on Global Television and CKNW radio’s “Medical Minute”. Dr. Art Hister will provide expert advice during his presentations on March 26th about the simple steps people can take to enjoy longer and healthier lives.

Additional guest speakers include Kirk Dzaman, a financial planning expert from Money Concepts and Chef Dez, a high profile local culinary expert with a regular newspaper columns who will be providing daily healthy cooking demonstrations. Other presenters include financial planners from Vancity and vacation experts from Maritime Travel. Attendees will also be able to take part in daily fitness demonstrations from Keenfit and the YMCA.

The Fraser Valley Retirement Planning and Healthy Living Show is geared towards people 30 to 65 years who are ready to improve their lives and their future. The family friendly event will offer a children’s play area with a bouncy castle and food vendors. Door prizes include a weekend getaway for two at The Hills Health Ranch; an infrared sauna from Jet Spa; an iPad from Vancity Savings; and a silver medallion from Physical Precious Metals, plus many more.

2012 Cloverdale Rodeo – Win Tickets

It’s baaaaack! The 66^th annual Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair, one of the top ten rodeo events in the world, takes place May 18-21, 2012 at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in Surrey. Festivities start off on Thursday, May 17th with the Cloverdale Bed Races & Decorated Bike Parade. This is always fun to attend and a great way to prepare for the long weekend of festivities!

Guests will find lots of new events at this year’s rodeo and fair, including the first-ever Cloverdale Cowboy Cook-Off which will pit world-renowned BBQ chefs in a mouth-watering competition where they can win $10,000! Also new this year is the World Freestyle Round-Up powered by ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK – a skateboard competition with the world’s top freestyle skateboarders from all over the globe. Adera Surrey SPCA Fundraising Event and Contest

On Sunday, February 12, local homebuilder Adera welcomes dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a pose for local photographer Ashleigh Wells, in exchange for a donation to the BC SPCA.

Pets and their owners will receive a fun Valentine-themed photo of their pet to take home. In celebration of Adera’s new South Surrey residential project, Breeze, all donations from the February 12 fundraising event will go to the Surrey branch of the BC SPCA. Adera will match all donations to the cause – now that’s what we like to hear!

The Surrey branch of the BC SPCA is especially in need of support after an outbreak closed the facility for an extended period in 2011. The branch is now re-opened but still faces a backlog of adoptable pets from the 2011 outbreak.

The event takes place from 12PM – 3PM on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Breeze Sales Centre, located at #20-2215 160th Street, Surrey (at 24th Avenue, Grandview Corners).

Fraser Valley Pulse announces the second annual 12 Days of Christmas in the Fraser Valley fundraiser, designed to raise money for local charities while also raising the profile of local businesses. Twelve local businesses will each donate a gift for a contest to run on online at FraserValleyPulse.com during December 1-16, 2011. Each weekday for 24 hours only, one holiday gift will be available, and readers are invited to enter to win each gift by making a donation to the corresponding business’s chosen charity. For each $5 donation, participants receive one entry to win. All donations are made via canadahelps.org, ensuring all funds go directly to your charity and donors receive an automated tax receipt.

Fraser Valley Pulse promotes this contest daily with direct emails to the subscriber database, home page advertisements on the website and a targeted social media campaign. Readers are not told ahead of time what the gifts are, so they are encouraged to visit the website daily to see the showcased businesses make a donation.

Your business is invited to donate a gift to the 12 Days of Christmas Fundraiser. Donations can include products, services, tickets, travel opportunities, admission to events or anything that showcases the best your company has to offer. Last year, donated prizes included Canucks tickets, spa services, 1 year of flower arrangements, cooking and dancing lessons, snowshoeing and tubing adventures, jewelry and family photography packages. World Junior A Challenge 2011 at the Langley Events Centre

Hockey fans in the Fraser Valley are in for a treat this November. The World Junior A Challenge is being held in Langley from November 7 to 13. Canada has two teams in the challenge—Canada East and Canada West—both of which are looking to bring home the gold medal. Preliminary games kick off November 7, with Canada East playing the Czech Republic and the USA against Sweden.

Teams represented in the 2011 World Junior A Challenge are Canada West, Canada East, United States, Czech Republic, Sweden and Russia. All events following the November 5 exhibition games are being held at the Langley Events Centre. Quarterfinals get under way on November 10, with the gold medal game being held on Sunday, November 13, 2011.

The Canada West roster includes 14 players from the BCHL. The World Junior A Challenge should be an exciting event, if tryouts for the Canadian rosters were any indication. For many of these young athletes this is the first opportunity to represent Canada at an international event. Come on out to the Langley Events Centre to show your support for our Junior A hockey players.
